Parry Sound – September 10-17, 2020
During Indian Summer in Georgian Bay when the light is the most beautiful, you will experience international cuisine and local culture in the company of like-minded women. Your accommodations will be in a 5 bedroom lake house in the midst of the forest., 4 acres of treed terrain surround the house. There are sweeping views of the bay from the south/southwest direction. Your cooking will take place in a charming European style kitchen. There are 2 recreation areas on different levels, a screened in porch and 2 decks – plenty of space for relaxation.
Day One- Arrival Day
Upon arrival, you will have the chance to relax and get acquainted the property, new friends and enjoy healthy snacks available all day. Before cocktail hour join Meredith Marotta for 60 minutes of Yoga to unwind, followed by a delicious dinner. Leave the city and work behind and be ready to set your tone for the very relaxed and enjoyable 6 days ahead.
Day two
Morning Yoga on the deck overlooking Dent Bay (weather permitting, otherwise indoors), followed by a hearty and healthy brunch. After brunch we will transfer to Killbear Provincial Park which boasts kilometers of rugged, rocky shoreline mixed with numerous sand beaches. We will enjoy beautiful view of windswept pines on rocky islands while on a gentle hike through 6km of trails available in the park.
Then, we return home for some rest and relaxation, before cooking with Chef Tasha, followed by Apero and dinner.
Day Three
An earlier rise today for yoga on the deck or indoors. A light breakfast will be served before our excursion to visit a renowned Canadian Artist and his island.
Today we will transfer you to Moose Deer Point Marina where we will board a water taxi that will take us to Ed and Mary Bartram’s Island where Ed will talk about his life, his island, his art and how he was influenced by Georgian Bay. If we are lucky enough Mary, Ed’s wife will also share with us her beautiful water color paintings inspired by their garden. On the island we will have a picnic style lunch and weather permitting a swim among the beautiful Canadian Shield. Check out our Blog to read more about Ed. Once back at the cottage, 60 minute of yoga to help us unwind from an active day, to be followed by Apero and dinner.
Day Four
Today is a ‘slow travel’ day, Yoga, Breakfast and Lunch on the deck, your choice of activity be it exploring the water, the woods, a good book, and enjoying your new friends.
Late afternoon lecture on Wine and Food Pairings, led by an industry specialist. We’ve taken the guesswork out of choosing the right wines for dinner. Learn the perfect wines to serve with poultry, red meat, pork and fish. Or, when in doubt drink Champagne!
Cooking lesson with Chef Tasha will take place before and after the lecture, dinner to follow.
Day Five
After Yoga and Brunch on the deck, transfer to Parry Sound Marina for a 3 hour cruise. This is the tour that put the Island Queen Cruise on the map around the world. On this tour the captain’s bring the ship surprisingly close to the rugged shoreline of Parry Island and the Bay’s remote outer islands. Passengers enjoy a captain’s eye view of these outer islands as the ship meanders past granite shoals into narrow channels. This is an eco-system so unique that it has earned World Biosphere Reserve status from the United Nations.
The 30,000 Islands of Georgian Bay represent the world’s largest freshwater archipelago. Part of the Canadian Shield, the islands are thought to be the eroded roots of an ancient mountain range called the Grenville Mountains. Although the cruise only explores a portion of the roots of these mountains, you will see enough to challenge your imagination.
After the cruise take part in the evening cooking lesson, menu chosen and taught by Chef Tasha, to be followed by Apero and dinner.
Day Six
After your last breakfast on the deck, prepare for departure day. We hope you’ve had an unforgettable week in Parry sound with us.
