Sicily – Details

Sicily’s varied landscape makes a dramatic first impression.  You arrive in Palermo and the sparkling Golfo di Castellammare, sea, volcano and mountain scenery, make a stunning backdrop for outdoor activities.  Hikers can climb erupting volcanoes and trapse through flower mountain meadows.  Swimmers enjoy some of the Mediterranean’s most pristine waters.  Sicily is also bursting at the seams with artistic and architectural gems.  In a short walk around Palermo you’ll see Arab domes and arches, bysantine mosaics and Norman palace walls.  Towards southeast sicily you’ll find baroque architectural masterpieces, from the golden-hued domes and palaces of Noto to the spectacular cathedral facades of Ragusa and Modica.

One of the pleasures of travelling to Sicily is the abundance of Mediterranean flavours.  A delectable layer-cake of culinary influences.  Sicily’s island borders embrace ages of influence – Greek ruins dot the land, Arabian eggplants, lemons, saffron, and nutmeg thrive in the volcanic soil and local artisans hand-make chocolates and cheeses.  Staying at a private estate farmhouse and boutique hotels, eating in kitchens, restaurants and at the market, we will enjoy the richness of Sicilian culture, food and tradition.
